Jass and his best friend Honey (Gurpreet Ghuggi) cook up several plans to confuse Jass's family so Jass can live with his wife Mahie in his own home without his family ever finding out. But in between all this Honey marries his girlfriend Preet (Khushboo Grewal) in secret because his dad Inspector Sikhander Tiwana (B.N Sharma) won't agree to his marriage but Honey tricks Preet's parents into believing that she's marrying Jass without Jass even knowing it. He had arranged Seema's marriage to such people five times in a row, with Seema evading all five arrangements. Her father had now arranged her marriage for the sixth time, which Seema evades again, and escapes to Goa, to live with her uncle, her father's younger brother (double role)(Anupam Kher). Siddharth Kashyap (Ali Zafar), Jai (Siddharth) and Omi (Divyendu Sharma) are three friends who live in a rented apartment. Miss Josephine (Lilette Dubey) is their landlady. All the three are frequent visitors to a cafe, owned by Joseph Furtado (Rishi Kapoor). The three owe huge amounts of money to Joseph and Josephine. One day, Omi spots Seema taking a walk with her dog Aryabhatta. Attracted to her, he calls his friend Jai. Both of them try to impress her. One after the other, they break into Seema's house. Omi tries to impress Seema with his poetry. Meanwhile, Seema mistakes him for a dog trainer and takes him straight into her bedroom. Omi assumes Seema is interested him and starts browsing her bedroom while Seema prepares her dog. Unable to handle the dog, Omi runs back home, where he tells everyone a completely different story. Omi tells his friends that they had sex and were deeply in love. Jealous, Jai tries his luck. Jai breaks in, telling them he was a reputed film-maker. Upon realization, Seema calls her aunt, and makes her beat up Jai until he finally makes his run. Back home, Jai tells a similar story. Jai tells the other two that they two were deeply in love and were now dating. Siddharth, meanwhile, isn't interested in Seema.
However, one day, Siddharth accidentally bumps into Seema, unaware of the fact that she is the girl Jai and Omi failed to impress. Both of them have a chat over lunch. Seema is impressed with Sid and asks him out on a date. Both of them get along very well and date frequently, until one day, Jai and Omi spot them. Both of them, jealous of the fact that they are now dating, tell Sid that she isn't a good girl and ask him to break up with her. Seema, on the other hand is shocked about the fact that they are both Sid's friends. Sid pretends to beat up both his friends to impress Seema, which later turns out to be Omi and Jai's imagination. Albeit the fight, They continue to try and split Sid and Seema. One day, Josephine gets caught in heavy rain. Joseph too was present at the scene and helps out Josephine. Both of them were amused at the same things between them. They both fall in love, but hesitate to start dating. Jai and Omi try to make advantage of the situation. They assume that Joseph would stop asking them to pay the cafe bills and Josephine would let them stay at her apartment for free, if they helped unite them. In their many attempts, the somehow unite Joseph and Josephine. Despite that, they still don't forgive the three. So Jai and Omi start lying about each of the two to the other. They get the money they wanted. However, Joseph and Josephine do not break up as the soon realize that all the secrets told to them were lies.
Soon after that, Sid and Seema break up, following successful attempts by Jai and Omi. However, Sid is deeply hurt and gets drunk. One day, Omi and Jai find a poison bottle in Sid's drawer and thought that he has committed suicide even though he hasn't . Realizing that they have made a really bad mistake, Jai and Omi try several times to unite Sid and Seema again. But they fail. One day finally, they go to Seema's house and meet her aunt. She comes up with a rather filmy solution and suggests Jai and Omi to play kidnappers and supposedly kidnap Seema. Then, the aunt goes to Sid and asks him to rescue Seema from the kidnappers. Finally, Sid and Seema start dating again. Seema's uncle, who had always been trying to marry Seema to a civilian, rather than a military officer, suggests Seema to marry Sid. At the same time, Seema's father turns up trying to take Seema back home. In order to solve the problem, Sid unites the brothers by telling them, that every military officer was once a civilian. The military officer was Impressed, they both let Sid and Seema marry.

Cast

Development

Development on the Chashme Baddoor remake began in 2006,[4] with Onir initially attached to the film.[5] David Dhawan was later announced to be directing the film,[6] and Sai Paranjpye, the director of the 1981 film, would be writing the script.[3] Dhawan commented that there would be some changes for the remake, such as the story getting updated to modern day and the remake having a larger budget than the 1981 film.[7]
In 2011 Siddharth Narayan was confirmed as portraying Jomo, with Dhawan stating that it was difficult casting the role due to Ravi Baswani's death in 2010 and that he wanted to cast someone that could "do justice to his part".[8] Divyendu Sharma was later announced as performing Omi.[9]
Filming took place in Mauritius, in 2012,[10] with Ali Zafar becoming injured during a fight sequence with Ayaz Khan.[11]

Critical Reception

Movie mostly got positive reviews. Taran Adarsh of Bollywood Hungama gave the film a rating of 3.5 out of 5 and said "An entertainer with dollops of humour and wild situations thrown in, this one's a laugh-riot".[12] Srijana Mitra Das of The Times of India awarded him 3.5 out of 5 stars, stating, "It retains the original's madness, masti and movie-mania".[13] Rajeev Masand of CNN-IBN gave it 2.5 out of 5 stating the film "doesn't entirely work because Dhawan appears conflicted between taking the characters on a journey of his making, and sticking to the blueprint of the original film. ".[14] Vinayak Chakravorty of India Today rated it 2.5 out of 5 and wrote, "The gags are simply not funny enough even if you are game to grant the licence of brainlessness".[15] The Deccan Herald stated that the remake is " is far(ce) removed " from the original and that "Exclamation marks are the only punctuations in this seamless comedy of courtship played at an impossibly high octave, without getting shrill."[16] Emirates 24/7 stated that "Dhawan has upped his standard, just enough to warrant a trip to the cinemas".[17]

Synopsis

Karan (Vidyut Jamwal), a commando with 9 Para Commandos of the Indian Army. During a routine helicopter training their helicopter crashes into the Chinese side. The lone survivor of the wreckage, he is captured by Chinese officials. As the crash happened on a river and wreckage of the chopper got washed away, Karan as well as his seniors are not able to convince the Chinese of his innocence. The Chinese feel they can use these circumstances to brand him as a Indian Spy and use this political leverage to embarrass the Indian Government and create an International fracus. The Indian Government feels that under such politically unfavourable circumstances, the Chinese will not accept any proof of Karan having crashed during a routine training so they order the Army to erase Karan's army record, identities and simply deny his existence. Due to this Karan has to suffer inhuman torture from Chinese army for one year in a bid to force a confession out of him.
However as Karan still refuses to relent, he is transferred to be tried at the Chinese Military Court with the most probable and possible sentence being the death penalty. During his transfer however, he escapes from his captors and crosses into Himachal Pradesh at the Lepcha border and travels through Kinnaur to reach his base at Pathankot. As Karan crosses the Himachal – Punjab border, he accidentally bumps into a girl, Simrit (Pooja Chopra) who is escaping from Amrit Kanwal Singh (Jaideep Ahlawat) goons and AK's brother who's a MP. Amrit Kanwal Singh or as he is better known AK-74, a notorious cold-blooded criminal and murderer with such strong political ties that he gets away with anything and everything illegal he does even after he murdered a Forrest Official, wants to marry Simrit for political gains as it will lend him some respectability and political leverage in the upcoming electoral campaign. Karan warns the goons to let go off her but they don't listen and bear the brunt of his pent up anger and after losing some men they retreat. Simran plays him to escort her out of the town by telling Karan that he has created more trouble for her and now he must escort her till she feels safe. AK waylays them on the Andheria Bridge. Finding himself outnumbered and outgunned Karanvir jumps off the bridge after kicking AK on his face with Simrit into a fast flowing river which carries them into the forest. As AK's power, position and respect from ordinary people of Dilerkot is largely attributed to fear-tactics efficiently used by him and after being publicly humiliated by Karan AK's senses that this act of Karan would affect his fear among people negatively declares that within 1 day he would track him down alive and hang him in the middle of marketplace in Dilkerkot and in the meantime kills a visibly frightened onlooker after he laughs at him. Karan hears Simrit's story and promises to help her. He decides to stick to the jungle route and then get out on the highway once he feels that the heat from Amrit Kanwal Singh and his henchmen has died down. AK on the other hand decides to pursue them inside the Jungle.
Now begins a cat and mouse game between AK, his men, and Karan in the forest. Karan at first successfully overpowers AK's henchmen by taking into effect his physical strength, Guerilla warfare tactics, cunning warfare skills, training as a commando and extreme knowledge of the area's flora and fauna and had an upper hand over the untrained and novice AK's men. The next morning AK74 hires special trackers and sets out along hunting dogs. AK spots a teared piece of Simrit's shirt. The hunting dogs thus get a scent of the duo and tracks them down. Karan misleads the dogs and crosses a river and the dogs loose them. Karan and simrit get outnumbered and Karan is shot in his stomach. AK throws Karan into a shallow river with rock beds jutting out here and there. One year later Karan survives and after recuperating fully heads back to the town. Meanwhile AK kills Simrit's parents and stages it as an accident and threatens Simrit to marry him. Karan fights all of AK's goons and an hired assassin sent by the Chinese. He beats up AK badly, breaks his ankle and hangs AK on the town square and surrenders to his Commander Col. Akhilesh Sinha (Darshan Jariwala) who had timely arrived to save him from the local police who are mere puppets of AK.
The movie ends with Karan finally telling Simrit his full name, Captain Karanvir Singh Dogra and promises to return back after the court-martial.
